COLORLAND® is the story of the magic events that take place on a painter's island. Famosso, the best painter ever and Chancellor of the kingdom, had a plot to replace King Charcoal after winning the 'Golden Brush' Painting Contest once more. Unfortunately, a goofy wizard inadvertently allows Famosso to take revenge: a cursed chameleonic lizard grows until it turns into an enormous beast, feed by all the colors of the fantasy island that its skin absorbs. When no Color is left in Colorland, this gigantic lizard will turn into the most terrible dragoon ever: it will collapse the entire Universe by devouring all the colors into real World. Therefore, by devouring Light itself! When a valiant young painter, Oil, is dubbed Sir Color Knight, he struggles to re-paint the island with the help of his extraordinary army of painting tools, and in this way to prevent the fatal mutation of the big lizard. However, many surprises are in store...

But COLORLAND® is other things too.

COLORLAND® is the basis for COLORLAND.NET, an interactive website that teaches kids about the Art of Painting. They will enjoy an amazing tale which familiarizes them with the all time great master painters and the most important masterpieces while they play art related games on-line. The COLORLAND website will surely be an excellent educational resource, both in the home and at school. COLORLAND NETWORK allows the kids to participate in their own education, as the site’s contests encourages them to send in student-produced educational material, promoting active self-instruction. It also encourages fine art painters, illustrators, art teachers, and art lovers in general, to share knowledge and art work to promote Painting Art among kids of all ages.
Therefore, parental guidelines have been respected so all contents are child safe. For this reason to avoid issues of nudity, violence, and inappropriate images, the educational and recreation pages are not automatically linked to other websites (see 'Important Notice III'). COLORLAND NETWORK wants to be a safe place where parents and caregivers are happy to have their children interact and learn about Painting Art.

Safety together with COLORLAND.NET’s design created for kids even the very youngest (see 'Browser Window and Site Design'), making COLORLAND NETWORK a perfect place for younger kids to start off on using Internet.

But above all, COLORLAND® conveys a positive message about the values that really matter in life, such as Honesty, Self Criteria, Freedom of Speech, Responsibility, Compassion and Peace.
BROWSER WINDOW AND SITE DESIGN
The standard outline guides for COLORLAND.NET were 1024 x 768 dpi. and 1280 x 800 dpi. resolution monitor (full-screen mode is advised). This site can be viewed at 800 x 600 dpi. but not less.
For best experiencing this site, your browser must support JAVA & FLASH.
This site includes its own basic navigation buttons ('back', 'forward' and occasionally 'print') to browse the educational and recreation pages in full-screen mode, which hides the standard navigator bars and prevents casual access to the desktop. Please note that these functions require JavaScript enabled, and that they may not work properly with all browser agents.
'Right clicking' on the mouse has been disabled preventing confusing dialogs from appearing, which may include access to search engines. This function also requires JavaScript enabled and it may not work properly with all browser agents neither. This function does not work on the Macromedia Flash contents, where a small contextual menu is displayed by right clicking on them.

Personal information, such as postal addresses, physical descriptions, or any other information that might possibly attract unwanted attention, will be removed before publication. Children are required to ask permission from a parent or caregiver before entering any contest.
IMPORTANT NOTICE II: Artistic Criterion
The artistic contents of this site do not reflect any personal taste in painting but rather reflect what is most universally accepted. However, one the main goals of this site is to popularize among kids those master painters who worked in a 'classical' way, somewhat overlooked by critics and historians in favor of other styles.
IMPORTANT NOTICE III: No External Links
Once in the educational and recreational contents, COLORLAND.NET has NO EXTERNAL LINKS. Nothing is automatically linked to other sites; the only way to gain access to them is from the 'home' page that automatically loads when this site is visited*. One of the reasons that lead me to not link automatically the COLORLAND® contents to external sites is explained in the next notice.

(*) except in the Macromedia Flash content, where the small contextual menu that is displayed by right clicking include a link to the Macromedia site, and the links to Facebook ('share' button and link to the official Colorland's Facebook page), which require signing in to an account.
IMPORTANT NOTICE IV: Nudity
Nudity has been always at the core of Western Art. Anyone who visits art galleries and museums knows that they will see nudity in some form. This is an important element in the cultural heritage of Western art. By entering this site, you alone assume full responsibility for what your kids will see and how to explain “nudity” as a traditional element of artistic expression.

HOWEVER, some nude figures may appear too sexual for some sensibilities. The COLORLAND NETWORK pages contain some nudity, but nudity that is far from being offensive, controversial or contrary to the standards of good taste, in a broad consensus. The primary purpose of this site is to promote an understanding of Painting Art among kids through a judicious selection of paintings rather than providing an exhaustive compilation of any one artists work. Too crude and/or violent paintings are not included in COLORLAND NETWORK either. Exceptions* to the policy above have been made on those masterpieces which have great relevance to Painting Art, such as (but not only) "The Creation of Adan (Sistine Chapel ceiling)" by Michelangelo, "The Ghent Altarpiece" by Jan van Eyck, "Luncheon on the Grass" by Manet, "The Third of May" by Goya, or "The Liberty leading the People" by Delacroix. It would be erroneous not to include these historic images in any site which claims to be a serious introduction to art.

(*) Some sensibilities might consider them 'exception' to the policy, others certainly not.
